1. My thinking about art has definitely changed. I used to think that my art had to be perfect and that every body had to like it for it to be good. This lead to me not thinking I was good and didn't draw much. I now know that my art doesn't have to be perfect, and in fact, sometimes imperfection is better. I also know that not every body has to like it, only I do. I learned this in artists solved problems unit or the limitations project. in the process of doing this I saw that my art wasn't perfect but it was still good What I thought art should look like. I did not draw this. It is just an example this is my limitations project. this taught me that it doesn't have to be perfect 2. when I compare the two drawings, you can really see a big difference in my skills. the first one is just a boring squid. there is no meaning to it because I was told to draw something involving water. the composition isn't good and there is no value. its not even very realistic For my recreation, I decided to draw something that not only is creative, but actually means something. I did a drawing of the jaws movie poster, only instead of a giant shark about to eat a human, I drew a giant man about to eat a shark. it depicts how in the movie the sharks kill the humans, but in real life, the humans are killing the sharks. it also has great composition, and I used plenty of value. this drawing took a lot of time to make and it really shows my skills. 3.

I had a lot of fun with this and it gave me a chance to let my mind flow on to the page. I created an interesting and unique image that had an interesting meaning. It was the walking dead mixed with mickey mouse, only Donald duck was the main character. I did this because Donald duck is usually the coward but, because zombies are coming after him, he has to be brave. 4. I liked this class because it allowed me to be more confident about my art. It could have been better for me if we worked a little more on value because that's what I want to know more about. I'm OK at shading, but I'd like to know how to make it better and more realistic.
For this unit I chose to do a picture about the Green Arrow. the theme was identity so this was the perfect choice. it depicts how Oliver Queen faces the tough choices with multiple identities and how it affects him. it shows that one side depicts the darker half of him while the other one is the lighter one
For this unit, I chose to do my work based on the artist, devorah sperber. The reason I chose her is because she makes pixelated art with everyday objects like spools of thread. I have always liked pixel art and I even have some pretty nice creations on a video game. Devorah sperber uses a viewing sphere which I don't have access to, but I was still able to replicate her pixelated style. You may notice that her work is upside down but that is only because of the viewing sphere. My work is not meant to be upside down. For my work, instead of using spools of thread, I used stuff called perler beads. They are meant to be formed into a picture, and then ironed together. This is a picture of one of sperber's pieces This is the original picture I used. I had to find a way to pixelate the image and then print it out. This was hard to do because I was on my phone and I didn't have access to photoshop and a printer I used these perler beeds as seen above to create the pixels. I was lucky enough to make the pixels the same size as the beeds This is the final piece Stopmotion is making a video using only pictures put together, each lasting one frame. A good example is this: http://youtu.be/e-yldqNkGfo. To make a stopmotion, your going to need props, a camera, and time. Stopmotion involves taking a picture and then moving your props but barely moving them. Keep in mind that it will only last one frame, therefore it should not move too much or too little. Now put it into an editing software. You can use a stopmotion app on your phone, or you can use a movie edited like windows movie maker or iMovie. I have made one in iMovie before. I have a video but I can't put it on here. If the movement is too slow then you can increase the frame rate and it should be fine. Here is the video Sam Cook and I made: http://youtu.be/pQSjrC7AAgY here is the video Sam Cook and I made: http://youtu.be/pQSjrC7AAgY For this unit I learned to make art with my limitations. At first it was kinda tough, but I eventually got the hang of it. For the pre assessment we had to make a newspaper structure. I'm sort of an engineer so I was pretty excited. But the combination of compromising with others and a certain someone stealing all of our supplies, made it very difficult. The limitations forced you out of your comfort zone which in turn made it not so bad to mess up. For instance, one time I experimented with painting. However, I couldn't use my hands. This made my art look horrible in my opinion, but then I remembered I did it with my mouth. This has also showed that i can do whatever I want with my art and still make it good. For this limitation, I had to use newspaper. I decided that I would make a blackout poem, but instead of making the words mean something, u turned it into a picture. At first, I thought I wouldn't be able to do that. I draw by looking at individual lines. This made me think of the big picture. I was eventually able to do it by not showing much detail. This project was made with Pointillism, drawing with only dots. This was also hard because I couldn't look at each individual line. I had to study the shading and draw from there. I had to go back in with sharpie to get a lot of the places darker. During this unit, my understanding of what original art is changed drastically. Before this unit I thought that original art was something that came from pure imagination, but now I know that it can be anything from anywhere as long as you add a unique twist. For this piece. I stole from the walking dead and the Mickey Mouse clubhouse. I then made Donald grimes from the walking duck. For this project, 2 into 1, I stole from a picture. I had the idea to make a sloth astronaut. I found a picture of a sloth in a box and changed the background to make him look like he's in space. In the subject steal I stole from the common subject, pollution, and spongebob. I read that bikini bottom is a real place where people dump toxic waste. The wildlife is mutated so I drew spongebob on strike with a sign saying no dumping and the water was all polluted. For our first unit, artists observe, we worked with composition and value. In my older drawings, I would just smack the main focus in the middle with nothing else. Now with composition, which is the creative layout of the drawing, my drawings look a lot better. We then went to perspective. You can use 1, 2, or 3 point perspective. We observed hallways and drew them with one point perspective. The best thing that helped my drawings was value. Value is shading in areas that are darker and leaving lighter spaces whiter. My shading originally looked bland. But after learning the technique it looks more realistic. Composition In these drawings, the composition is drastically changed. The first one is just right in the middle which looks boring.. While the second one has background images and Donald interacting with them. Perspective In these drawings, perspective used in a hallway. In the first one the perspective is off and my line quality isn't great. However, in the second one, my perspective is spot on and line quality is way better. This technique makes it look more realistic as if you were actually standing there Value You can tell that the second one is the after picture because you can see the expression in the mask. The shading in this one really captures the depth of the mask. In the first one it doesn't look very 3D |
